About White Rabbit Psychology
Dr Alison Argo
Hi, my name is Alison and it is a real joy to create my first private practice for my community here on the Sunshine Coast where I have lived, initially for several years in the 1990s, and more recently since returning in 2012.
I firmly believe in working holistically with people, which just means appreciating the many facets that make us human and impact on how we are feeling. Treatment plans are formulated to take into consideration physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional, social, spiritual, community and practical factors. My desire is to create a safe non-judgemental space for people to dedicate time for themselves.
While formally trained in various therapeutic modalities including classic cognitive behavioural therapy and schema-therapy, I like to use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which offers a warmth and flexibility that a lot of people find effective. Focused ACT (FACT) is also favoured as it aims to create maximum change with minimal sessions.
My qualifications include a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Geropsychology. Twenty years as a psychologist in the public health sector has allowed me to gather extensive experience in applying evidence-based assessments and therapies to a variety of mental health disorders. My roles have served people in regional and rural settings, from acute hospitals to the wider community. I have focused on adult and older adult mental health services, and aged care/geriatric services.
I received my education and training in clinical psychology from accredited universities QUT, UQ and JCU. My studies included Bachelor of Arts – Psychology; Bachelor of Social Science – Psychology (honours year); and Clinical Doctorate in Clinical Psychology/Clinical Geropsychology involving clinical course work, clinical placements and a research thesis. I am fully registered with AHPRA which provides reassurance to the general public regarding meeting professional obligations including recency of practice, ongoing professional development and criminal history checks. I am a full Member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Fellow of the College of Clinical Psychologists.
I believe the person behind the training matters. Genuine empathy is at the core of who I am, and who you will work with for your new beginning. I am dedicated to working with adults and older adults and can recommend colleagues for younger people seeking help. I am inclusive of all nationalities, cultures, beliefs, lifestyles, genders and sexualities.
